Jane Greenlaw is Associate Professor of Health Care Law and Director of the Division of the Medical Humanities at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She is Co-Director of the Center for Ethics, Humanities and Palliative Care. Originally a nurse, Jane Greenlaw studied law at Boston College Law School because of an interest in health care policy, patient rights, and medical ethics. At the School of Medicine she teaches courses in health care law and medical ethics. She is a member of the University of Rochester Medical Center Ethics Committee and the Ethics Consultation Service of Strong Memorial Hospital. Since 1989 she has been a member of the New York State Task Force on Life and the Law, a group appointed by former Governor Mario Cuomo to advise the legislature about health policy matters. Professor Greenlaw is the author of many articles about health care law and ethics, published in nursing, medical and legal journals and has co-authored a column, “Ethics Consultation,” in the Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics. She has given numerous presentations and workshops about topics in health law and medical ethics, including end-of- life decisions.
