Introductory
Proseminar
Designed as an orientation to bioethics
and to “being a student once more”, this two-week on-site
intensive course, more familiarly known as “bioethics boot camp”,
offers students in The Bioethics Program a comprehensive introduction
to the field of bioethics and introduces students to basic tools of
bioethics analysis and research. The two intensive forty-hour weeks
are filled with lectures and workshops by faculty, including leading
experts and founding figures in the field of bioethics, each offering
a week-long lecture series introducing students to their special area
of expertise. Supplementing the lectures and workshops offered on the
Union College campus are tours of clinical and research sites in New
York’s Capital District (Albany, Saratoga, Schenectady, Troy)
and at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City tours
enable students to discuss ethical issues with practitioners in the
clinical and research contexts in which bedside and benchside bioethical
issues arise.
The Proseminar also gives students a chance to meet the faculty and the staff
and their fellow students face-to-face.Additionally it affords the staff the
chance to work one-on-one with each individual student to insure that every student
knows how to use the on-line educational and research tools available to them
through The Bioethics Program. |
