The
Masters Project
Every student in The Bioethics Program is required to complete a masters project
and to present it to their fellow students at the Capstone.
Each student receives individual supervision from a faculty member who directs
their project and from a second reader who comments on it at various stages of
development. Students working on projects also take a special two-term course
in which they discuss their projects with each other.
Projects may take many forms. Some may take the form of a plan, or a policy initiative,
or a proposal for reform, e.g. “Creating an Ethics Consultation Service
for a Health Care Institution.” Or, a thesis that may take the form of
a survey or some other type of empirical research; e.g., “A Survey on the
Practice in Hospitals in New York State of Withdrawal of Life-Sustaining Treatments
for Incapacitated Patients without Health Care Proxies.” Alternatively,
they may take the form of a traditional thesis on such subjects as “To
the Highest Bidder: The Market in Human Eggs” - to cite the titles of three
recent masters projects. |
